ADVISOR ADVISEE
What is the YBDT Advisor Program?
We believe that cultivating professional networks and supportive relationships is crucial to the development of a rising educator. Creating a space in which advisees and advisors can build an organic and mutually beneficial professional relationship is a way to hone our skills and exchange ideas. We want to build up our new teachers to become the best future colleagues that they can be. This will help advisees, advisors, and the broader network of YBDT educators provide the greatest impact possible in supporting our music community in Texas.

Your role in the Advisor Program
The Advisee
Band directors who have taught for two years or less are invited to apply as an Advisee.
Advisee's are individuals who want to continue developing their own skills in collaboration with a more experienced (5+ years of teaching) colleague. We hope to establish relationships that are personalized for each advisee/advisor pair because we acknowledge the unique ways in which professional development can occur.

The Advisor
If you have experience as a band director for 5 or more years, you are invited to apply to be an Advisor. This is a great opportunity to develop your own mentoring skills and give back to the YBDT community. We plan to match up advisees with advisors that best meet the specific needs for both individuals.

Additional Information
The overarching goal of the program is to foster communication between two teachers with common professional development goals. We recognize that every advisee and advisor will have different needs and approaches to mentorship. The purpose of this program is to help YOU work on the skills you need and want while also creating professional relationships - our role is to facilitate and provide the scaffolding needed to support your advisee/advisor relationships.
It should noted that the YBDT Advisor Program is not intended to replace or replicate the extremely valuable mentorship opportunities that are available in other forms such as clinicians, fine arts administrators, relationships with colleagues, etc. At YBDT, we believe that it takes a strong and varied support system to thrive in your early years as a band director. We are proud to be able to offer this FREE program to a limited number of participants. It takes a village, thank you for your interest in supporting our latest effort to reduce the burnout rate of band directors in Texas.
